Arrate Ega馻 Gimenez

Errenteria,

Errenteria (Gipuzkoa), 1963

She has been living in Bermeo (Bizkaia) for the last ten years. After studying Hispanic Philology, she taught at a number of high schools. She currently works for the ISEI-IVEI (Research and Evaluation Institute of the Basque Country) in the Didactics Department.

In 1998 she won the Baporea award for her book Printzesa puzkertia, a narrative for young people published by SM in 1999.

Previous to that, however, she had produced a number of works in Spanish: she won the Salamanca Atenea award in 1992 and the second prize in the Donostia Hiria (City of San Sebastian) award.

She acknowledges the influence she has had from the writer Mariasun Landa and it was Landa herself who encouraged her to start writing literature in Basque for young people.

Her works for young people include: Mari, Eskolan, Benetako pirata and Maritxu (see bibliography). Her book Benetako pirata is illustrated with drawings that she herself produced.
